pushing through

we are still alive...just barely. between my finals and G's 12+ hour days in the lab we are hanging on by a thread. the exciting news that is keeping us moving along?? we are, as G says, 'starting a family' by getting a puppy !!!

i am SOOOO excited. the quality of the pictures kind of stinks, but one of those little lovies will come home with us after they are weaned in a few weeks. i am partial to the one in the upper right...he/she looks so sweet! they are half boxer and the other half is a mystery. they were born to a stray mama so we will be giving one a good home. can you believe the cuteness???? i am already so in love...remind me of this when i am cursing while wiping dog **it off our new floors. no, but really it will be worth it!

we aren't sure which one will be ours or if it will be a boy or girl...kind of like having a baby the old fashioned way! any name suggestions?

UPDATE: puppy will be coming home THIS thursday!! yay!

Yay for puppies!!! So fun! Take lots of pictures and videos - I wish I had more from when Ava was a puppy. Also - the puppy potty pads were a great help for housebreaking. I put one by the door she would use to go out. They're scented to entice bathroom behavior, so they learn to go to the door, then when they go over there, you take them outside and give treats when they go in the grass instead. Pretty soon you don't need the potty pad anymore!

AWESOME!!! I am so excited for you guys- this is the perfect time to get a puppy with you having more time to be at home. You're going to love/hate every minute of it! Not that we are the experts on the matter, but if you need any advice as you're going along, Alex and I are happy to help :) I'm also partial to the one on the upper right, but I'm sure whichever one you choose, it will be adorable! No genius ideas about a name, either, but I think it's fun when you choose a human name. Most people don't pick out a name until they pick out the dog- Alex and I just really had our heart set on a "Buttercup" (and my dream of adding in a "Westley" as soon as we have more time/space for another dog)- so no worries about it yet. I'm also leaning toward the ladies because they don't spray and depending on the breed, can be easier to train/less aggressive, but then you have to have them spayed, which is a lot more involved than neutering a male (and more expensive). Probably more than people want to read about on your comment post, but yay yay yay!

Yay!!!! They are ALL so cute, I am so excited for you guys!! Having a dog is the best thing ever (despite the bad things they do sometimes!) Good luck with puppy training and can't wait to see more pics of the one you choose and all of his/her shenanigans.

Congrats! We just 'started our family' as well and picked up our new dog, Hunter, on Tuesday from the shelter. Your new pup will be so much fun! Enjoy!

Ahhhhh....they are all so cute, will be hard to pick. For me it's always a no brainer on gender, I am biased to female dogs. It will be fun to see which one you pick, very cute.

Ah, I think the little guy in the lower left is a cutie. Perhaps the name "Hamlet" would be appropriate. When he wakes rouses you in the middle of the night, you can ponder whether to get up and take him outside. "To pee or not to pee, that is the question."
